One day, I found myself entering the gates of Central Luzon State University in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. My school, University Science High School became my second home. It gives me wonderful memories , challenges, and knowledge which I would treasure forever. As time pass by, I realized I loved some things about it.
The things I love about USHS?
New friends
Ever since I entered USHS, I am able to socialize with other people more. I witness how they grew up, I get to know them well. I knew them to the point where I know what makes them smile, cry, what makes them afraid or more. It’s so nice to be able to spend my time with them for almost 5 years now. I was with them through ups and downs, we saw how each other conquered our fears, or how we struggled everytime there are school problems. Even though we faced many challenges, we managed to stay happy and positive because our moments with each other makes us forget that we are tired. During my stay here, I do not only meet good friends such as my batchmates, but also the different people in the school like other students, teachers,and staffs. It’s sad and somewhat happy that I will soon finish my highschool journey with them.
Happy memories
This is one of the things that I love most about USHS. I value and treasure happy memories a lot. Every day for almost five years, there is always a happy memory. Since I am with my friends every day, even the most simple things can make me happy. During my entire stay here, we experienced doing pranks, play different games like children, have a classroom jam,laugh with each other’s actions and witty jokes or lines that makes us happy, eat together in a boodle fight, put icing of cake on each other’s face,win something, dancing together, and more. We have so much unforgettable memories that there’s too many to mention.
Helped me to be better
Being in USHS helped me to be better in any aspect. It helped me to be kind and be a helpful hand to others. One day, our task was to give some donations to someone and interview them. That day, it feels so good in the heart to be able to give someone a help, especially when she give thanks to us and cried because she said that is a really big help. She is an old woman. Ever since that day, I get really glad if I’m able to help others, that’s why I continue to do it. I also learned to be nature-friendly. In school, we are trained to segregate our trash and we clean once a week. Because of that, I try to find if there are separate trashcans so that I can separate them, we’re used to doing it. Another thing that get better is that: before, I’m really slow in finishing tasks, but as time pass by, I learned to do them as quickly as possible. I think I also get better when it comes to the way I think about things around me. Because of the thoughts of the people around me which I could agree to, I learned to see the goodness in everyone. The people around me in this school makes me see the goodness in everyone. There are seriously so much things that gets better through my school’s help.
Challenges
I like challenges because I believe that challenges brings out the best in you. There are some challenges in my highschool life that I never thought I would conquer. One important thing that I conquered is my shyness. During my first year in USHS, I talked very softly and people told me to speak louder most times. But I conquered all of those. The people around me helped me to be less shy, maybe because I already feel comfortable with them. I also get shy at some times now but not always. I get to recite now without the people saying to louder my voice. I also spill some jokes for the people around me. Through USHS, I gained confidence. Challenges helped me developed myself. Another one important thing that I learned is the proper time management. There are days when there are pile of requirements, I am challenged to have a proper time management. Gladly, I conquered them. I still cram nowadays, but I’m able to finish them because we already did these for years.
Life lessons
In my stay here, I don’t only learned subject lessons, but also life lessons. There are various moments in my highschool life that teaches me life lessons. One important life lessons that I have learned is to think positively and smile no matter what happened.Ever since I entered my highschool life, I start to convince myself that everything happens for a reason, and that gives me positive thoughts. When I don’t meet my goals regarding school grades and such, I just think positively because school grades are not my only world, and I know they would get better sooner. There’s too much to look forward to in life, not just getting achievements. Another life lessons that I have learned is to have courage and be kind. In the challenges I conquered, I learned to be brave. I believed that I can be who I aim to be if I remained brave and motivated.
I knew myself better
There are things that I never thought that I could do. Through several activities, I never thought that I can be like this or that, I can do this or that. I have discoveries about myself. Some of these are: I learned that I enjoy doing things related to art such as paintings, drawings, doing poems, short story sentences, designing, etc. Even though I’m not professional on those, I atleast know that I enjoy them. I discovered that I liked them because everytime we were given requirements related to them, I enjoy it even though it’s hard. My experiences in USHS helps me distinguish what I really like and don’t like. I also became aware of my own characteristics, I knew me better.
Witnessed beautiful things
In USHS, I’m able to witness many different beautiful things such as kindness, talents, and more. No matter how bad things are happening, I saw some students who try to bring each other up, try to cheer up each other. There are also students who try to give their help to those who are in need. There are students that are kind even just in a simple way, by saying thank you to different school staffs when they did them a favor.I believe that anyone can be kind in their own way, and I’m glad that I’m able to see goodness in the people around me in my school. I am also able to see various talents especially during competitions and presentations. There are students who are really good in singing,dancing, acting, speaking, drawing, writing and more. I am really amazed by their talents, I idolize them. I am also proud of the things that they are doing.
Many first times
I love the thought that I experienced so much first times in my USHS journey. Some of them are: first speech choir, first declamation, first defense, first boodle fight with classmates, first icing fight, first time going home late from school requirements, first time attending a lantern festival, first pool party with friends, first time creating a short film, and more. I love all these first times. My highschool life plays a really big part in my life. I love that I get to experience the things that I have experienced, and I experienced all of them because my school played part in it.
Environment
Our school is inside the campus of Central Luzon State University. This campus is full of trees which gives a very peaceful mood as compared to other schools which are in main part of cities wherein you can hear many different vehicles or random noise from people. Also, inside the campus there are different food houses with really delicious foods. There are various places in CLSU wherein you can stay and chill because different parts of the campus are good.
Mental development
Another thing that I love most about USHS is because through this school, we are mentally developed. I cannot deny that this is really a good school when you talk about mental development. I learned to think critically and logically here, I’m developed. I am mentally developed because I didn’t expect that we can memorize things such as declamation pieces, periodic table, scientific names,etc. We were also able to finish 4 different researches.We were also able to conquer analytical problems in math, physics, chemistry or more. Back when we are still elementary students, I don’t really try to understand our lessons very well because I’m not yet conscious with my grade back then, but when I entered highschool, things turned out differently. I really try to understand our lessons that need to be because I don’t want to get kicked out. I think that thought is what gives us the need to really think carefully, and that helped us. I think all of these are really important because I know we will use this in the near future.
Those are some of the things I loved most ever since I studied at University Science High School. I would like to look forward to more beautiful things that I would love. I would forever treasure the memories and lessons I had in USHS.
